(Please note that none of these personality or appearance guidelines are set in stone. They are simply here to show you what the norm is. Mind you, there won't be any bright orange Blues that love to eat babies. You can still have a unique dragon while keeping [mostly!] to the norm of the color! Also, markings are very well-loved around here. Please feel free to give your dragon some!)

    Gold
    Gender: 100% female
Impresses: Heterosexual women with strong leadership & planning skills
    Size: 50-60 ft
Rises: 2 turns old, once a turn (by admin approval)
Clutch: 10-40 - Contains all colors

Gold dragons, also called Queens, are the largest of any dragon color. Gold dragons are by far the rarest dragons on Pern, at just less than 1% of the population. They are the most intelligent of dragons and they are dominant over all other colors; any non-gold dragon will invariably obey a queen's orders, even against the wishes of its own rider. Queens are incapable of digesting firestone and producing flame; however, they do fight Zombies - they fight in the most protected wing, the Queen's wing with their riders armed with specially designed flamethrower. They are the ones barking orders though and those orders are best followed. An egg that is going to hatch a gold dragon is notable: It is gold-colored and larger than other eggs. A gold dragon will always Impress a heterosexual female and are believed by most Weyrfolk to prefer young women who were not raised in the Weyr. Golds are the leaders of any Weyr, and as such they are often arrogant, possess great leadership qualities, and can easily become aggressive if their Weyr is in danger. They are especially possessive of males during and around the time of their mating flight and of their eggs after they've clutched, and will not hesitate to turn to violence if either of these things are threatened. Golds are the largest and most impressive of dragons and require strong, capable riders to keep their powerful personalities in check.

    Garnet
    Gender: 100% female
Impresses: Ambitious heterosexual or bisexual women
    Size: 35-45 ft
Rises: 2 turns old, once per 2 turns (by Admin approval)
Clutch: 2-25 Eggs; No Golds, Bronzes rare

Garnets are the second-largest Queen color, and just as rare as golds. They tend towards the deeper shades of red, though, as with any color, there are exceptions. They have a nice metallic sheen that sets them quite firmly apart from their smaller Crimson cousins (if their size didn't do the job quite nicely already). They're much sleeker and more streamlined than most golds are, the quickest and most flexible of all Queens. It takes a canny bronze who's light on his wings to catch a garnet in her prime. They're a mysterious sort, keeping tight holds on their secrets and even tighter holds on flapping mouths. They are quite insistent on their status and do not tolerate insubordination in any way, shape, or form. They also tend to have volatile tempers, which, coupled with their size and their speed, doesn't tend to let things end well. They're not considered very good leaders because of this, and will only become Senior Queen if there's no other option. Like Golds, they are incapable of digesting firestone and belching flame. Any attempt to do so will just end in a very upset stomach for the poor Queen...

    [img*]Here[*/img]

    Bronze
    Gender: 100% male
Impresses: Heterosexual men with strong leadership & planning skills
    Size: 40-50 ft
Chases: 1.5 turns old, any female

Bronze dragons are the largest males, yet they are generally significantly smaller than queens. Bronzes consist of about 5% of all dragons, being the second most rare of dragons on Pern. They are almost always the ones to mate with queens, as the smaller colors generally lack the stamina to chase and catch the gold dragons when they rise to mate. Due to the 5-1 bronze/gold ratio and the infrequency of gold mating flights, they often mate with greens, but their size often puts them at a disadvantage in chasing the agile, smaller females. The senior bronze of a Weyr is determined through which bronze wins the mating flight of the senior gold. Losers of Queen flights will often find a willing green to service their needs. Bronzes are just as intelligent as golds are, and the senior bronze of a Weyr has higher standing than any other dragon besides the senior gold. Arrogant, princely and self-assured, a bronze will only Impress to a heterosexual male who shares their drive for ambition and ability to lead even in turbulent situations.

    Amethyst
    Gender: 100% female
Impresses: Any gender; people in need of their care
    Size: 35-45 ft
Rises: 2 turns old, once per 2 turns
Clutch: 4-18 - None above Amethyst except Bronzes

The last of the queen ranks, Amethysts are sweet, motherly creatures. At 35-45 feet, they are the same size as their Garnet sisters, with just as much authority behind them. Amethysts tend to be rather muscular in build, with endurance that can outlast even the strongest of Browns. When they want to, they can put on quite a bit of speed, too - those deep chests of theirs hold strong wing-muscles, large lungs, and hearts that pump with fervor. Personality-wise, they are among the calmest of the Queens and the most motherly, tending to treat everybody around them as their children. There are, of course, the very the rare ones that are as aggressive as their Garnet and gold sisters, but these do not tend to gain much in the way of rank. Amethysts are the only queens who can choose to chew firestone, as they do not experience the same negative reaction to 'stone as most of the other queens do. Although most choose one or the other, it is possible for them to switch between having clutches and fighting the hordes. Those who flame fly in the fighting Wings among other dragons. Amethysts can be rather stern when aggravated, though, and when their 'children' are threatened, they can even best their Garnet sisters in terms of rage. A word to the wise: don't mess with momma.

    [img*]Here[*/img]

    Brown
    Gender: 100% male
Impresses: Strong-willed men; strong-willed bisexual women.
Usually calm/patient/steady or in need of a partner with those traits
    Size: 30-40 ft
    Chases: 1.25 turns, any female.

Brown dragons are the next largest color, spanning from 30-40 feet. About 15% of all dragons are brown, making them more common than golds and bronzes combined. Browns are the stable peacekeepers of the Weyr; they have naturally mellow, responsible demeanors that make them the perfect ranks for Weyrlingmaster, Wingleader or Wingsecond positions. However, they are usually not true leaders, so they are better suited to staying in the background. Their devotion and loyalty to whatever they deem worth protecting more than makes up for their preference of avoiding the spotlight, and they are some of the most valuable dragons in the Weyr. Browns may occasionally mate with queens, although this is rare due their size disadvantage against bronzes, so they usually mate with greens instead. Almost all brownriders are male; most are heterosexual, yet some are "masculine" bisexual or homosexual men. Female brownriders are almost unheard of, although it occasionally does happen.

    [img*]Here[*/img]

    Crimson
    Gender: 50% female, 50% male
    Impresses: Any gender, any sexuality
    Size: 25-35 ft
Chases: 1 turn, chases all females within reason
Rises: 1 turn, rises twice a turn
Clutches: 0-6, Clutches anything below Brown, Usually infertile

Crimsons are, as their color implies, quite fiery beasties. They tend to be marked in the brighter shades of red, though there are, of course, some exceptions. They're a quick-tempered lot, acting first and thinking later. This does, of course, usually have some consequences, but reds never seem to mind. (Unlike their poor riders!) Crimsons are swift, usually sporting large wingspans that help propel them through the air at top speed. Of course, these large wings are also easily-damaged, so the prudent Crimsonrider will always make sure to keep their bondmate out of trouble as often as possible. Now, don't start thinking too badly of them. If you can manage to stay on one's good side, Crimsons are good friends, and valuable allies when you're in a fight.  Female Crimsons make very good mothers, tending to care for their eggs like they do their riders - obsessively and over-protectively. It is not advised to make any sort of comment about a Crimson's eggs that could in any way be construed as negative. Those teeth are sharp and they are not afraid to use them. Crimson fathers are much the same way, and tend to dote on their mates as long as they can remember them.

    [img*]Here[*/img]

    Midnight
    Gender: 50% female, 50% male
    Impresses: Any gender, any sexuality
Usually loners or those who can help them manage their darker traits
    Size: 25-35 ft
Chases: 1 turn, chases all females within reason
Rises: 1 turn, rises twice a turn
Clutches: 0-6, Clutches anything below Brown, Usually infertile

Midnights can be anything from a deep, flat black to a lighter, near-gray shade. They tend to be loners, shunning the company of all but their riders in favor of the peace and quiet that comes with solitude. They are fast and strong, settling into a comfortable median between the sheer strength of a brown and the speed and flexibility of a green. Like greens and emeralds, Midnights have no true one personality type. The only commonality in the bunch seems to be that they usually have some sort of darker trait. Whether this manifests as ruthlessness, a tendency towards violence, a love of manipulation, or constant dishonesty, a Midnight will usually have something negative about them to offset their neutral looks. It's up to their rider to balance that out. Midnights are neither especially good nor especially bad parents, though the flightier ones tend to become bored with their eggs as quickly as greens do. Midnights don't tend to gain much in the way of rank, preferring to blend into the background so that they won't be missed if they disappear for a day or two, as they are wont to do.

    [img*]Here[*/img]

    Sapphire
    Gender: 100% female
    Impresses: Women, other genders rarely
Usually bisexual or homosexual men if choosing a man
    Size: 30-40 ft
Rises: 1.5 turns, three times if infertile, once if fertile
Clutches: 3-10 - Anything Sapphire and below

Similar in personality to their blue brothers, Sapphires are often mistaken for simply being female blues. This is only partly true. They are slightly bigger then their blue brothers built more along the lines of a brown as far as size goes. They typically stand at 30-40 feet in length with plenty of muscle to back them up. They have more endurance than agility and can last as long as browns, crimsons or midnights when flying over long distances. They range in the darker end of the color spectrum like the gem they are named for. In personality there seems to be no set personality type for these dragons. Like greens they can be anywhere from sweet and loving to moody and aggressive. They tend to be level-headed as a whole though and make great wing-seconds since they lack the drive to become Wingleaders. They are extremely protective of any clutches they lay and going onto the sands without permission when they're guarding is not recommended.

    [img*]Here[*/img]

    Blue
    Gender: 100% male
Impresses: Men, bisexual or homosexual women, others.
People who share their sensitivity and empathy, or the lighthearted.
    Size: 20-30 ft
Chases: 1 turn, Greens, Crimsons, Midnights, Sapphires.

Blue dragons used to be the smallest males before Emeralds came along, ranging from 25-30 feet, and make up about a third (30%) of all dragons on Pern. They are nearly as agile as greens, but unlike the greens, they often have enough stamina to last for an entire Threadfall if Thread still fell. Their ability to fly quickly and escape from clumps of hordes make them invaluable fighters for fighting Wings even though they don't pack quite as much power as the larger browns or bronzes. They mate with greens, female Crimsons, female Midnights, and the occasional Sapphire as they are simply too small to keep up with a massive queen over a long mating flight. However, blues are naturally empathetic in nature, and are especially sensitive when it comes to detecting possible candidates for dragon Impression. They often accompany greens on Searches, as larger dragons aren't as acute to the mental sensitivity required to attract a hatchling dragon. Blues commonly Impress to men of any sexuality, though often homosexual or bisexual, but it is not uncommon for them to choose homosexual or bisexual women as riders.

    [img*]Here[*/img]

    Emerald
    Gender: 100% male
    Impresses: Men, homosexual women, others
    Size: 15-25 ft
Chases: 1 turn, Greens, Crimsons, Midnights.

Among the smaller of the dragons Emeralds are basically male greens. They have the same builds and are the same size coming in at 15-20 feet in length. The only difference is that emeralds tend toward the brighter, lighter greens. There are the few darker individuals but most are on the lighter end of the spectrum. They have the same range of personality types as their female counterparts though often not in such extremes. Think of them as gentler male versions with just as much bounce in their step. They are also extremely energetic and tend to have a tad more energy than greens. Generally they have about the same stamina and agility as their green sisters. They do not make good clutch fathers at all tending to abandon any clutches and the mother as soon as they can.

    [img*]Here[*/img]

    Green
    Gender: 100% female
    Impresses: Women, homosexual men, others
    Size: 15-25 ft
    Rises: 1 turn, 4 times a turn
Clutches: 0-3 eggs, Anything below Blue, Usually infertile

Green dragons are the smallest normal color, and are the most common dragons, making up about half of all dragons on Pern (50%). They are female, but unlike the queens, the majority are infertile and chew firestone to produce flame to fight against the Hordes. Greens are extremely valuable in fighting because of their agility, but they lack the stamina to last an entire fight and generally fly in two or three shifts. They rise for mating flights typically four times per Turn, and are notorious for being very sexual creatures. A rider of a green dragon is expected to be aware of what this implies and open to having many different sexual partners, because greens rarely choose just one mate. Like blues, they are very sensitive to possible dragon candidates and are the most common dragon to send on Search. Greens usually Impress to females, but are also known to choose homosexual men as partners.

    [img*]Here[*/img]

    White
    Gender: N/A (Identifies 30% male, 30% female,
10% neutral or agender, 20% genderfluid)
    Impresses: Unknown
    Size: 15-18 ft
    Chases: N/A
    Rises: N/A

Whites are dragons that appear rarely so very little is known about them. They are the smallest dragons in any Weyr and also the most mysterious. They are genderless, and experience no urge to mate, although they usually identify themselves as either male or female. They possess excellent betweening skills and are quite intelligent, even able to between through time if the situation arises. Their hides are the most mysterious; they are always a pale, perfect white color, but have hints of all the other five colors in their hide.
